This fall, Busan is once again celebrating the best of cinema. The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), one of Asia’s major film festivals, returns this year, drawing filmmakers and moviegoers from around the world. The 31st Busan International Film Festival will take place for ten days from Tuesday, October 6 to Thursday, October 15, 2026, at venues across the city. With the Busan Cinema Center at the heart of the festival, visitors can enjoy a variety of screenings and programs while exploring Busan.
This year’s festival will feature 316 films, with Kim Jong-kwan’s The Table: Day and Night selected as the opening film. Movie lovers can discover a diverse selection of films from Korea and around the world, making a trip to Busan even more memorable.
More to Enjoy at BIFF
One of the best things about BIFF is its wide range of programs, giving audiences a chance to connect with both the films and the people behind them.
At Actors’ House, you can hear directly from actors as they talk about their work, their approach to acting, and their experiences in the film industry. If you want to dive deeper into the world of cinema, don’t miss the Master Class. The Master Class gives audiences a chance to hear renowned filmmakers discuss their work and approach to filmmaking, offering an in-depth look at the art of cinema.
Open Cinema is another highlight of BIFF, offering outdoor movie screenings under the stars.
Community BIFF: A Festival for Movie Lovers in Nampo-dong
During BIFF, film-related events take place across Busan, extending well beyond the Busan Cinema Center.
One of these is Community BIFF in Nampo-dong, where audiences help shape the festival experience. Running from October 8 to 11, Community BIFF features film screenings, performances, talks, and more, offering a different way to experience the festival.
A Special Fall Getaway to Busan with BIFF
The excitement of BIFF extends across Busan, far beyond the Busan Cinema Center. If you love movies, check out the film lineup in advance and plan your time in Busan around the screenings you want to see.
Spend the day exploring Busan’s coastline and neighborhoods, then catch a movie or hear from filmmakers in the evening. It’s a great way to experience a different side of Busan.
