1. North Port Waterfront Park, Busan's New Attraction

North Port Waterfront Park is one of the places drawing the most attention in Busan lately. The park recently made headlines across Korea when a shark about 3.5 meters long appeared in one of its waterways. In fact, North Port Waterfront Park had already been gaining attention as one of Busan's new tourist attractions.

Close to Busan Station, it is an ideal place for a quick stop at the beginning or end of your trip. As you enter the park, views of the sea and Busan Port open up beyond its spacious grounds. On a clear day, you can take a leisurely stroll beneath blue skies with the sea in view, enjoying Busan's distinctive harbor scenery along the way.

One of the park's highlights is the scenic waterway that winds through its grounds. As you walk along the waterway, bridges and lush greenery come together to create a slightly different view at every turn. Take your time and enjoy a relaxing stroll as you admire the sky and surrounding scenery reflected on the water.

2. Kangkangee Arts Village, From Shipyards to an Art Village

Located in Daepyeong-dong, Yeongdo-gu, Busan, Kangkangee Arts Village offers a special opportunity to explore the history of Busan's port and shipbuilding industry up close.
The area is known as the birthplace of Korea's modern shipbuilding industry. In the old shipyards, workers used hammers to chip rust and old paint off ships, and the village is said to have taken its name from the ringing "kkang-kkang" sound of their work.

Daepyeong-dong, long home to shipyards, began to take on a new look with an urban regeneration project in 2016. The old shipyards and harbor scenery were preserved, while artworks and other attractions were added throughout the alleyways to create today's Kangkangee Arts Village.

While exploring the village, be sure to stop by the Kangkangee Village Museum. Through photographs, documents, and videos, you can learn about Daepyeong-dong's shipbuilding history and the residents who made their living repairing ships. Visiting the museum before walking around the village may give you a fresh perspective on the surrounding scenery.

Unlike more polished tourist destinations, Kangkangee Arts Village still has working shipyards and workshops, offering the distinctive charm of seeing a real harbor community up close. It is well worth a walk if you want to discover Busan's sea, its shipbuilding industry, and the stories of the people who have lived here.

3. Huinnyeoul Culture Village, A Seaside Walk with Stunning Views

There is one place you simply have to visit when exploring Yeongdo, Busan! That place is Huinnyeoul Culture Village. Cafés and shops line the sloping seaside lanes, with the blue sea stretching out below, giving this destination a charming atmosphere that feels like a little escape abroad.

Huinnyeoul Culture Village is best enjoyed by strolling slowly through its alleyways with the sea in view, rather than following a fixed sightseeing route. Each alley has its own character, making the village a lovely place to explore at a leisurely pace.

4. Atelier:O, A Relaxing Break with Ocean Views

As you walk through Huinnyeoul Culture Village, you will notice lovely cafés overlooking the sea. If you feel like taking a break during your seaside stroll, Atelier:O is a wonderful place to stop!

Step inside the café, and its large windows offer a sweeping view of the blue sea off Huinnyeoul Culture Village. Seating is available on the first and second floors, with the second floor being an especially pleasant place to relax and enjoy the sea view.

Another memorable feature of this café is the music. Soft, soothing music fills the café, and sitting for a while looking out at the sea can make even a busy mind feel more at ease.

Along with coffee and tea, the café offers a variety of desserts, including cakes, egg tarts, and dacquoise, perfect for a light treat. After exploring the alleyways and sea views of Huinnyeoul Culture Village, stop by Atelier:O to relax for a while and enjoy the music. It is a place where you can savor the beautiful sea views and enjoy an extra moment of relaxation on your trip.

Q. Any tips for following this North Port and Yeongdo itinerary in Busan?

A. If you are using public transportation to visit these places, you will often need to take buses rather than the subway. Bringing a suitcase onto a bus can be difficult, so I recommend carrying a backpack or traveling light. Huinnyeoul Culture Village also offers beautiful views at sunset. I recommend visiting the Huinnyeoul Culture Village around sunset and arranging your other stops accordingly. Choryang, Nampo, and Jagalchi are also nearby, so they're worth exploring before or after your trip through North Port and Yeongdo.
