** 2024 Busan Hydrangea Flower Cultural Festival has been canceled.
In Busan, there is a festival that you must visit in early summer before the vacation season begins in earnest.
The Hydrangea Flower Cultural Festival is held yearly between late June and early July at the Taejongsa Temple, located in Taejongdae Park. Enjoy the beautiful coastal landscape and the multicolored hydrangea at this must-visit tourist destination.
There are two ways to get to Taejongsa Temple, where the Hydrangea Flower Cultural Festival is held. One is the walking course to Taejongsa Temple, and the other is the Danubi Train. If you can’t wait to see the hydrangea festival, take the Danubi Train, get off at the entrance to the Taejongsa Temple, and walk along the beautiful hydrangea flower path to the Taejongsa Temple. If you like to walk, stroll along the coastal trail to Taejongsa Temple. Slowly walk while enjoying the fresh ocean breeze, and you’ll arrive at the entrance where the hydrangea welcomes visitors.
The hydrangeas at Taejongsa Temple are planted and grown over the past 40 years by the head monk. To secure various hydrangea seeds, the monk traveled around the world. Currently, there are 5,000 trees from 30 species of hydrangeas in the area surrounding Taejongsa Temple, which gives you an estimate of the scale. In honor of the monk’s wish to share the magnificent site of hydrangea at Taejongsa Temple, the Hydrangea Flower Cultural Festival began in 2006.
The Taejongsa Temple area, known as a leading hydrangea habitat in Korea, is crowded with people who want to enjoy the beautiful hydrangea each year around the time of the festival. Camera shutters flash, people laugh in small voices, and the hydrangea in full bloom come together to present a breathtaking sight. The hydrangea, which comes in various colors, has a different flower language depending on the color. For instance, the flower language for pink is “sincerity and dream of a virgin,” blue is “cold-hearted,” and white is “precariousness.” During the festival period, you can enjoy various programs—including the “Flower Bed Cold Buckwheat Noodle Tasting” offering free cold buckwheat noodles samples, the “Flower Bed Photo Zone,” “Flower Bed Busking,” and “Healing Forest Trail Experience”—and make the most out of the festival.
Enjoy the brilliant and colorful hydrangea flower bed while holding hands with your loved one and embracing the sea breeze. Small seedlings were planted one at a time to create the miraculous site today. Witness the miracle firsthand.
