The Taejongdae Hydrangea Flower Cultural Festival, Busan’s main summer flower festival, took place from Jul. 9–12 in the areas of the Taejongsa Temple and the Sports Park in Taejongdae, Yeongdo-gu. Taejongdae, a popular tourist spot in Busan, is a seasonal attraction that draws a large number of visitors each year due to its stunning scenery of vibrant hydrangeas in full bloom every summer. Although this year’s festival has ended, it is still a well-known location where you can enjoy hydrangeas to the fullest until the summer season ends.

Various Programs to Enjoy with Hydrangeas

During the festival period, visitors enjoyed a variety of activities, including an opening ceremony, performances, hands-on programs, a flea market, photo zones, and a stamp tour. Programs were open to visitors of all ages, such as the hydrangea photo exhibition, fan-making, and tea tasting. Outdoor performances of different musical genres—including classical, brass band, and acoustic performances—allowed visitors to unwind while being surrounded by flowers.

Particularly well-liked was the tea tasting program in the hydrangea garden, where participants relaxed in nature.

Hydrangeas in Full Bloom at Taejongsa Temple

The highlight of the festival is, of course, the hydrangea garden surrounding Taejongsa Temple. Photo spots surrounded by fully-bloomed hydrangeas are perfect for onlookers to capture the magnificent summer scenery. The best spots to snap photos would be at the entrance of Taejongsa Temple and areas around the main event venue.

You can see hydrangeas in full bloom along the walking trails throughout the venue. Wearing comfortable shoes is recommended, as the trails are steep.

During the event, free shuttle buses are available between Taejongdae’s entrance and the festival venue for a hassle-free tour.

You can take in the refreshing scenery of the South Sea at the Taejongdae Observatory, where the wide sea blends with unique rock cliffs.
