Busan Station has been the home of various cultural and historical buildings, such as the Japanese Consulate, the Chinese Consulate, and the base of the US Armed Forces and ocean freighters.

Among the residential areas for Chinese people in Busan, this Chinatown has been the largest as the Chinese Consulate was established here. Various Chinese restaurants with their unique atmospheres and delicious dishes have been set up in front of Busan Station, attracting both Busan citizens and tourists.

The Busan Chinatown Culture Festival is held every October in this Chinatown. It was established in 2004 to celebrate the culture of overseas Chinese people together with Koreans. Every year, the number of visitors attending the festival is increasing as more and more people want to experience the distinct culture of the Chinese in Busan.

The Busan Chinatown Culture Festival provides various cultural performances, experiences, exhibitions, and stages.
The festival begins with its splendid street parade in which participants wearing traditional Chinese clothes perform traditional Chinese dances. The opening and closing ceremonies are held at the Overseas Chinese Junior and High Schools in Busan.

Moreover, the Shanghai Art Association of China, which is invited to the festival, showcases its vivid, dynamic performances of “face changing,” “Beijing opera,” and traditional dances. You can take photos with the art association’s performers and participate in Chinese cultural experience programs, such as making a traditional Chinese mask for face changing, with children.

The festival’s highlight would be its food culture programs. The Chinese restaurants in the Chinatown Special Zone hold a food sampling event and offer coupons allowing winners to have free meals at a restaurant. Their tasty traditional food and snacks, some of which are only available during the festival period, attract many citizens and tourists.

When it gets dark, the festival changes its face! It becomes a dynamic Chinese night market lined with red lanterns, resembling a scene of a Chinese movie.
