Last November, the long-awaited Busan Metropolitan Library has finally been opened to the public. This brings happy changes to the lives of the people of Busan, who have been anxiously waiting for this opening. Today, we’ll explore this open library for all so that everyone can become smart when in Busan Metropolitan Library!
The first thing you’ll notice about the new Busan Metropolitan Library is its glass facade, which takes up the front side of the four-story building. The Central Hall on the first floor is illuminated by the wave of sunlight washing through the glass, like a classy book café. Its majestic exterior and its classy interior will surely leave visitors in awe. Beyond this beautiful beginning at the main gate, the building is still filled with surprises! Now, let’s take a closer look at the floors.
On the second floor of the building is the primary library, Chaek Maru . It has a large collection of literature and history books, as well as spacious reading spaces for visitors. There’s even a dedicated shelf for newspapers, periodicals, and comic books. One can clearly see that the designers have put a lot of thought into making this space efficient and comfortable for the users.
The atmosphere around the book collection built into the staircase is relaxed, free, and stylish thanks to the books displayed on the windowsill. This staircase connects the second and third floors of the building, flowing like a never-ending sea of wisdom. Grab a book from the world literature section, and drink deep from the wells of wisdom! Head over to the classic and cozy specialized materials collection to find a quiet place for concentration.
Other than these areas abundant with books, the second floor also houses the PC room, which allows online access and document access, and the Digital Zone, which provides access to multimedia.
Chaek Nuriteo , the main library of the third floor, houses the sections for philosophy, social and technical sciences, natural science, and other specialized materials from around the world. It is also characterized by its elegant and refined layout. Meanwhile, Busanae Tteul , a space hosting a vast collection of materials on Busan history, culture, arts, and administration, is a treasure trove of stories passed down in this city.
Kkumtteurak Children’s Library is located on the first floor of the annex. It is a library dedicated to children, filled with picture books, children’s books, children’s newspapers, and interactive storytelling programs. Visitors can take a seat on the floor with their favorite book or climb up to the second-floor attic for a cozy reading experience.
A book is all you need in Busan Metropolitan Library, an open library for everyone!
