Tucked away in Chungmu-dong, Seo-gu, Busan, the Coastal Market is where the city’s portside charm truly comes alive.
Its location near Namhang Port made it easy to source fresh seafood, and over time, small shops began to gather, serving local fishermen and sailors.
In the early 1960s, the market opened only at dawn, but by 1965, it had grown into the official Chungmu-dong Coastal Market we know today.
Set between Jagalchi Market and Namhang Port, this market is alive with the scent of the sea and the energy of daily life. Fresh seafood lines the stalls, while alleys filled with grilled eel, handmade noodles, butcher shops, and clothing stores create a colorful local scene.
Every corner hums with voices and sea breezes that make you want to slow down and stay awhile.
There is a small lookout on one side of the market where you can take in views of Namhang Port—a nice spot to pause after wandering through the stalls.
Although not a glamorous place, it’s where you’ll find the real Busan, alive with everyday moments. If you want to feel the city’s true charm, where the sea breeze and the warmth of its people come together, make your way to Chungmu-dong Coastal Market.
