Nakdong Estuary Eco Center

Eulsukdo Island is where the main stem of the Nakdonggang River meets the seawater of the South Sea, creating an ecological haven rich in fertile soil and freshwater fish, and shellfish. It also serves as a large winter home for migratory birds in search of abundant food. Let’s explore Eulsukdo Island, one of Busan’s most beautiful islands.
As its name suggests - meaning “clean island with birds” – Eulsukdo Island is widely recognized as Korea’s premier bird sanctuary. In the 1950s, it was even considered Asia’s largest habitat for migratory birds.
The Nakdong Estuary Eco Center, located on Eulsukdo Island, was renovated and opened in May 2024 under the theme ‘Eulsukdo Zoom-in.’ Visitors can now enjoy a more interactive experience of Eulsukdo Island's beautiful four seasons and diverse wildlife, including migratory birds, through educational programs and exhibitions.

The center features a variety of rooms designed to provide an in-depth exploration of Eulsukdo Island’s ecology. Immerse yourself in Eulsukdo's nature with all five senses through the ‘Archive Space,’ which houses ecological data, the ‘Birding Space,’ where you can observe migratory birds up close, and the ‘Bird Experience Space,’ which sparks children's curiosity. Discover the unique beauty of nature and migratory birds at the Nakdong Estuary Eco Center.

Amisan Observatory

Downstream the Nakdonggang River is home to numerous migratory birds enjoying rich food and clear water. Visit the Amisan Observatory to view a fantastic landscape where the river meets the ocean.

Downstream the long and winding Nakdonggang River, Saha-gu and Gangseo-gu, Busan is where the river reaches the ocean. In the area surrounding Saha-gu’s Dadaepo Beach, you can find the Amisan Observatory, where you can see the unique sandy islands downstream the Nakdonggang River along with the low-flying kites against the tranquil backdrop of sunrise and sunset.

On the second floor of the observatory, you can explore the ecology of the Nakdong estuary and learn about the formation of the delta.
From the third-floor of the observatory, use the telescope to observe the shifting sand dunes of the Nakdong estuary and take in the breathtaking views of the river and sea. You can also spot sandy islands where migratory birds rest, either through the telescope or with the naked eye.

Don’t miss the Amisan Noeulmaru-gil, a scenic path offering another way to view the downstream stretch of the Nakdonggang River. The moment you step outside and feel the ocean breeze, you’ll experience an even more breathtaking connection to nature. Take the wooden staircases that connect to the observation points below Noeulmaru-gil for stunning views. At sunset, this spot offers a fantastic panorama of the ocean, the setting sun, and the sandy beach. The clouds hovering above the crimson sun over the dark silhouette of Gadeokdo Island resemble a mesmerizing movie scene. It’s also spectacular to watch migratory birds, such as kites and buzzards, soaring over the mouth of the Nakdonggang River.

Amisan Observatory is a place where you can see nature’s magnificent view of the natural sandy beach, the migratory birds, and the sunset’s red glow.

Artificial Migratory Bird Habitat Myeongpum Dulle Trails

I think many people still don't know about this place. Originally, it was a place where the general public was prohibited from entering because it was a military operation area, so it is preserved as an internal wetland, its natural state. It has been open as a trail since July 2022.

Myeongpum Dulle Trails are just the right length for a leisurely walk.
However, to protect the migratory birds, it’s important to stay on the designated paths.
In spring and autumn, flocks of greenshanks and plovers rest here, and you may even spot whooper swans feeding occasionally. The sight of migrating birds and the gentle breeze rustling through the reeds create a soothing and relaxing atmosphere.

The nearby mudflats are accessible for an hour before and after low tide, offering a unique experience and a great ecological lesson for children.
The Myeongpum Dulle Trails also connect to Galmaet Trails, and a small forest trail runs alongside the road, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a walk with your pet. Both migratory birds and visitors can find a peaceful rest here.
