Top 3 Hanok Cafes to Enjoy in Busan

Busan is becoming a new mecca of coffee with cafes of various styles and tastes. Since there are so many hip cafes, quiet and relaxing cafes, and extra-large cafes in the city, choosing which one to go can be a challenge.
Among them are those with a theme of hanok. Hanoks, or Korean traditional houses, are known to lend an air of tranquility and relaxation. I have recently visited a number of cafes with a hanok interior, and found them to be an excellent place of relaxation.

Suwol Gyeonghwa

Suwol Gyeonghwa located in Songjeong is already popular on SNS for the superb view it commands. Its hanok-style interior includes a glass wall through which you can enjoy the view of Songjeong Beach and coastal railway across the expansive beach. When I stepped into the cafe on the fourth floor of the building, I was immediately overwhelmed by the simplicity of its hanok interior and the breathtaking view of the ocean.

Inside, there were tables facing the window, a long bar table, and a comfortable room for group guests.
On weekends, people line up to get a seat at one of the tables by the window. Luckily, there are more seats on the third floor as a second option if you don’t have the time to wait.
The cafe also serves various Korean desserts. Among them, I ordered the “Dalbodeure Box” because caught my eye the most.
It came with a menu and tiny manual, which explains the meaning of the word “dalbodeure” and description of each of the desserts in the box.

If you're looking for a photo zone at the cafe, I recommend you to go to the room on the third floor staircase or the one on the fourth floor. The third floor room has plenty of lighting that creates a magical atmosphere for your photo shoot, while the fourth floor room has a round door where you can take pretty photos.
One of the things that set Suwol Gyeonghwa apart from others is the “Afternoon Tea”. There is a separate room for this tea but you need to make a reservation for it.

Bibibidang

At first glance, Bibibidang on Dalmaji-gil Road looks like an ordinary building, but transforms into something else once you step inside. It has a modern Korean-style interior with white walls, and the soothing music playing in the background made me want to stay in the cafe longer.

The tables with a modern and simple design caught my eye first, while on the other hand the ceiling, floor, door, and columns of the floor seating room portrayed the simple beauty of a hanok. The very Korean-style interior with drawings, furniture, and even the stone paper weight on the tissue looked stylish and yet familiar.

Bibibidang serves various different types of traditional Korean tea, which you can enjoy while taking in the expansive view of Cheongsapo Port. It’s perfect place to just kick back and enjoy the view of the area with a cup of aromatic tea in one hand. Another thing that Bibibidang offers that others don’t is the view of Haeundae Beach Train and Sky Capsule on the Green Railway.
There is also the Bibibidang Gallery Art Center on the second floor. It sells various tea products and offers a tea class. So if you are interested, contact the cafe in advance.

Cheongsapo Station

Go past Dalmaji-gill Road and come down the hill, and you will arrive at Cheongsapo Port. In my opinion, Cheongsapo Port is a really beautiful place, particularly because of the alleys, which all command a great view of the ocean at the end. The place became even more popular after the Blue Line Park opened. Although there were a number of cafes along the road down the hill, one in particular caught my eye the most. Cheongsapo Station is a 100-year-old building that was remodeled into a cafe. The low stone fences around the cafe made me feel like I’m in Jejudo Island.

Inside the building past the counter, the place looks cozy with attractive lighting coming through a large window. The cafe has a cozy vintage interior, complete with bare wooden rafters and columns and mother-of-pearl furniture, which makes the place look like an ordinary Korean farm house. It made me want to relax with a cup of traditional tea in front of the glass wall with soft ambient lighting, just passing the time in the soothing aroma of the tea.

The vintage room has a back door leading to the backyard, which is a pleasant space with the sunlight, green trees, and small water fountain where you can enjoy the calming sound water. If you happen to be there on a sunny day, it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to pass the time on the backyard terrace, catching some cool breeze.
Cheongsapo Station is only a short walk from the beach. It may be worthwhile to stop by at the cafe, because it's where you can enjoy the views of Cheongsapo Beach in the front and the Blue Line Park in the back in one stop.
