The ocean of Gijang that retains the emerald color of the East Sea is a location visited by many people. On sunny or cloudy days, it is a great location for driving along the coast, where romantic cafés offer a great view. Visitors always stop by the Jukseong Catholic Church in Gijang.

The Jukseong Catholic Church in Jukseong-ri, Gijang-gun, Busan, has an uncommon mood to it because of its location in a small fishing village. Similar to a coastal village in the middle ages, the landscape is as pretty as a picture. The white foam that splashes over the rocks contrasts against the red roof of the church, grabbing the attention of visitors.

The space that looks like it’s for ringing the bell that invites people to mass is actually a filming set built in 2009 for the SBS drama Dream. While people no longer talk about the drama, the well-made space is a must-travel destination for tourists who visit Gijang.

Many people wait in line at the photo zone of the Jukseong Catholic Church that looks exactly like the picture. The blue ocean and sky inside the frame create a beautiful backdrop. Look at the vast and open sea to enjoy your time alone, or film a movie with a loved one. You should not miss the surrounding landscape, such as the broad and flat rock next to the church—a great spot to enjoy the open sea with every fiber of the body. Unlike the Haeundae or Gwangalli Beaches, this is the perfect place to enjoy the quiet mood of a small coastal village. The church’s interior is operated as a gallery, which means that you can see a great exhibition if you’re lucky.

The black pine tree at Jukseong-ri, 10 min away by foot from the church, is a unique landscape as well. This pine tree is an old, large plant composed of five trees that are combined to look like one big tree estimated to be 250–300 years old. Villagers used to hold a ritual wishing for big catch of fish, and the Guksudang Shrine that enshrines the tutelary deity gives the place a high folk value. The old pine branches sagging downward appear as if they are calling out to travelers.

Jukseong Catholic Church keeps its charm with the blue sky and endless ocean. The cool breeze and foamy surf of the waves create a refreshing mood. In addition, the union between the red, pointy roof of the church and the great nature serves as a small paradise for the modern people living a busy life.
